Éric Lacrouts
Violinist
Born in 1976 into a family of musicians, Eric Lacrouts began studying piano and violin at the age of six. He graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris with top honours in violin, studying with Jacques Ghestem, and in chamber music with Régis Pasquier and Itamar Golan, before continuing in the Conservatoire’s advanced postgraduate programme.
After completing his studies in France, he further developed his artistry with renowned musicians including Igor Oistrakh, Yair Kless, Hermann Krebbers, Philippe Hirshorn and Joseph Silverstein.
Concertmaster of both the Opéra National de Paris Orchestra and the Paris Mozart Orchestra, Eric Lacrouts performs a wide operatic and symphonic repertoire under conductors such as Georg Solti, Seiji Ozawa, Valery Gergiev, Pierre Boulez, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Semyon Bychkov and Georges Prêtre. He has also collaborated with numerous composers on the premieres of their works.
For ten years, he was first violin of the Psophos Quartet and has appeared at many European festivals alongside artists including Salvatore Accardo, Bruno Giuranna, Antonio Meneses, Régis and Bruno Pasquier, Denis Pascal and Cédric Tiberghien. Several composers, among them Lucien Guérinel, Gérard Gastinel and Emmanuel Séjourné, have dedicated works to him.
His recordings have received wide critical acclaim, notably his interpretation of Ysaÿe’s solo violin sonatas on the Klarthe label, praised by Diapason, Classica and ResMusica. His recording of the Franck and Fauré sonatas with Jean-Baptiste Fonlupt was also highly acclaimed and received top distinctions from both Classica and Diapason. Since 2010, he has been a member of the World Orchestra for Peace.
Eric Lacrouts performs on a 1730 violin by Pietro Guarneri and a bow made by Christian Barthe in 2015.
