Nicolas N’Haux

Flutist

Born in Oloron Sainte Marie, in the Béarn region, Nicolas N’Haux began his musical education at the conservatoire in Pau under Anne Christine Laurent, before furthering his studies with Emmanuelle Ophèle, Jérôme Gaubert, and Pierre Dumail in Paris. He then joined the prestigious Haute École de Musique de Lausanne in the class of José-Daniel Castellon. There, he earned his Master’s in specialized interpretation and a Master’s in pedagogy. He performed Mozart’s Concerto in D Major with the Chamber Orchestra of Lausanne and was also awarded the Max Jost Foundation Prize.

For two years, he was a member of the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra under the direction of Pierre Boulez and participated in the final European tour of the renowned French conductor and composer with the Ensemble Inter-Contemporain. As a laureate of the 19th International Chamber Music Competition of Thessaloniki, he actively contributes to the artistic life of the Compagnie de L’Eléchant: “To think and pass society through the filter of the Performing Arts, to defend the right to a culture of quality for all, such is the profoundly humanistic philosophy of the young Compagnie de l’éléchant.”

Nicolas is regularly invited to perform with numerous orchestras, including the Paris Mozart Orchestra under Claire Gibault, the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, the Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux, the Ensemble Inter-Contemporain, the Orchestre National de Bretagne, and the Marseille Philharmonic Orchestra.

As an artist-educator, after spending some years at the CRR de Brest and as principal flutist of the instrumental ensemble of Brest Métropole, Nicolas is currently a tenured PEA professor at the Conservatoire Henri-Dutilleux de Clamart Vallée Sud Grand Paris. He was also a member of the woodwind commission of the Confédération Musicale de France from 2019 to 2024. Regularly invited as a jury member, he mentors students in the Pôle Supérieur for their preparation for the flute teacher diploma.
