Julien Lair

Trumpeter

Julien Lair began his trumpet studies with Dominique Bougard before furthering his education at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in 2001. Four years later, he graduated with distinction, receiving a DFS with honors.

In addition, Julien decided to pursue an international exchange (ERASMUS) in the class of renowned soloist Reinhold Friedrich at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe in Germany.

In 2006, he joined the Musique des Gardiens de la Paix of the Préfecture de Police de Paris as principal trumpet under the direction of Philippe Ferro.

Julien has performed as principal trumpet in numerous orchestras, including the Orchestre National de France, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre de Paris, Opéra de Lyon, and Ensemble Intercontemporain, under the baton of eminent conductors.

Since 2011, Julien has also been a professor at the conservatoire du 19ème arrondissement de Paris.

Julien has won several international competitions, including:

  • 1st Prize in the International Chamber Music Competition in Illzach in March 2009
  • 1st Prize in the International Brass Quintet Competition “Jan Koetsier” in Munich in November 2006
  • 3rd Prize in the International Brass Ensemble Competition in Passau in November 2006
  • 1st Prize in the International Chamber Music Competition in Lyon in April 2005,
  • Audience Prize (ADAMI Award)
  • SACEM Prize (best semi-final),
  • Fondation Bayer Cropscience Award
  • 1st Prize in the European Chamber Music Competition organized by FNAPEC in 2004.
