Straddling the line between symphony and concerto, Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante for violin and viola is a remarkable and unique work, displaying unparalleled mastery in the art of blending the voices of the two instruments and shaping an expressive dialogue between them. It is preceded here by the Divertimento in D major, whose joyful character and dance-inflected rhythms reflect the influence of the composers the young Mozart encountered in Mannheim.
