Viola player

Sebastien Luigi Levy studied violin in Creteil (with J.P. Wallez and P. Hofer), in Aulnay (with J. Lenert), and at the CRR of Paris (with S. Gesner and J. Lenert) where he obtained all his instrumental and chamber music diplomas. He continued his higher studies at the Rotterdam Conservatorium, obtaining the prize for virtuosity in the class of J.J. Kantorow.

During this period, his passion for chamber music led him to start studying viola, attracted by its sound and its privileged place in the quartet. Sebastien then went to the Hochschule in Frankfurt to study viola in Tabea Zimmermann’s class.

His passion for chamber music has given him the opportunity to perform with prestigious musicians such as Aurele Nicolet, Andres Dias, Ida Kavafian, Patrice Fontanarosa, Luis Claret, Marielle Nordman, etc., across the world (Colorado Bravo Festival, Seattle Vancouver, Calgary (Banff Centre for the Arts), Guatemala, Tokyo, Beijing Guangzhou…).

He has had the chance to work with the greatest orchestras (the Paris Opera, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France, the Orchestra of Paris Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Les Dissonances, etc.), as well as serving as principal viola at the Orchestra of the Opera of Rouen, BBC Scottish Orchestra, Orchestra of Burgundy, Paris Mozart Orchestra, Ensemble Peleas, Orchestra of the Pays de Savoie…

Sebastien Luigi Levy was principal viola of the Orchestre Les Siecles conducted by F.X. Roth from 2003 to 2019, with which he had the privilege of performing in the most beautiful European halls and deepening his stylistic knowledge (Historical Informed Performance) through numerous readings and encounters (David Watkins, Fabien Roussel, Clive Brown, Kai Kopp, etc.).

Sebastien Luigi Levy is a member of the Orchestras of the Garde Republicaine.

Holder of the Certificate of Aptitude for Higher Education Teaching, he is currently a Professor at the CRR of Boulogne Billancourt and at the CRR of Paris.
